Custom & Import Tax

Customs & Import Tax

At Halloweez, we strive to make your international shopping experience as seamless as possible. Below, we’ve outlined essential information regarding customs and import taxes to help you understand your responsibilities and how we can assist you.

1. Who is responsible for paying duties and taxes for international shipments?

For international orders, the consignee (recipient) is responsible for any customs duties, import taxes, or fees levied by the destination country. These charges are not included in your order total at checkout and are payable directly to the customs authorities upon delivery of your package.

2. How much do I need to pay for import duty?

The amount of customs duty and import tax varies depending on your country’s tariff policies and regulations. The final amount is determined by your local customs authority and is influenced by factors such as the declared value of the package, its contents, and the shipping method used.

For packages shipped via Regular Mail (Air Mail):

We typically declare a lower invoice value (e.g., $10 USD) and mark the package as a gift to help reduce the likelihood of high import duties. However, this is subject to your country’s customs policies.

For packages shipped via Express Service (e.g., DHL, UPS, EMS, TNT):

Import duties and taxes are more likely to be applied, as express shipments are often subject to stricter customs scrutiny. The amount charged will depend on your country’s tariff regulations.

3. What do we do to help reduce your import tax?

We understand that import taxes can be a concern, and we’re here to assist:

  • If you have specific requirements for the declared value of your package, please contact us at mail@halloweez.com before your order is shipped. We will adjust the declared value accordingly.
  • If no instructions are provided, we will declare a reasonable value (typically between $20 USD and $200 USD) based on the package’s weight and volume to minimize potential customs charges.

4. What do we do if your package encounters customs clearance issues?

In the rare event that your package faces customs clearance issues, we’re here to help:

  • We will provide you with the necessary shipping invoice and documentation required by customs.
  • If needed, we will also coordinate with our shipping partners (e.g., DHL, UPS) to assist in resolving the issue promptly.

5.CUSTOMS & IMPORT TAX REGULATIONS SPECIFIC TO THE UNITED STATES

  1. TARIFF CLASSIFICATION: Goods imported from the U.S. are subject to classification under the Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) of the importing country.

  2. ORIGIN RULES: The U.S.-Specific Rules of Origin determine whether goods qualify for preferential treatment under trade agreements (e.g., USMCA or previous NAFTA).

  3. ANTI-DUMPING & COUNTERVAILING DUTIES: Additional duties may apply to U.S. imports if they are found to be dumped or subsidized, per WTO Regulations.

  4. SECTION 301 TARIFFS: Certain U.S. goods may face punitive tariffs under Section 301 of the Trade Act of 1974 due to unfair trade practices.

  5. DE MINIMIS VALUE: For shipments from the U.S., the de minimis threshold (varies by country) allows low-value imports to enter duty-free.

  6. DOCUMENTATION REQUIREMENTS: U.S. imports typically require a Commercial Invoice, Packing List, and Certificate of Origin.

  7. TRADE AGREEMENT COMPLIANCE: Imports under USMCA must meet Regional Value Content (RVC) requirements to qualify for duty reductions.

  8. ADDITIONAL U.S.-SPECIFIC RESTRICTIONS: Certain products (e.g., agriculture, technology) may face extra licensing or quotas.
